Acting School Athlete

250px-Yost_Marla_FP-568r.jpgTVI NY student Marla Yost is making great strides in and out of the classroom. Having just completed an on-camera master class with casting director Pat McCorkle and acting with Playmakers Rep, she will be running a marathon on March 22- in Rome, Italy nonetheless. She is covering 26.2 miles raising money on behalf of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Check out Marla’s amazing story and help her out with her goal here. Good luck, and in this instance, we will refrain from the “Break A L–”

The Future Generation of our Acting School

250px-JKJandGwendolyn.jpgTeachers and Actors and Babies… oh my. TVI Actors Studio is not only brimming with accomplished actors and teachers, but we also have the next generation of actors at the bright age of 7 months preparing for a bright future in the world of arts. Jason King Jones, a TVI teacher and Artistic Associate of The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, juggles a full-time job as a director, teacher and daddy to daughter, Gwendolyn. What a cute name. Jason and his wife chose the name after nine months of deliberation. All my parents could think of was ‘Leigh’ for a girl or ‘Lee’ for a boy. Hence, my name is Leigh.

International Acting Students

It’s not quite Thanksgiving, but TVI Actors Studio Fulltime eight week Students are celebrating anyway. Their program is over! Students from all over the world (UK, Australia, New Zealand, France, Brussels, Turkey, Russia, Denmark, to name a few) attended and worked very hard since late September. Many are staying to extend their studies. It was great having them all here! Congratulations and good work!

Acting Career Coaching: Who Do You Know?

social-networking.jpgSo the saying goes, “It’s who you know!”. I say it’s not who you know but who knows you, because if a director or producer or casting director is not thinking of you when they are casting then the adage does not apply. So how do you get people to know you when you’re just starting out? Well, you’re doing it, industry workshops, lectures, mailings and networking…you are doing it right?! Okay so here is the challenge: Make a list of the people who would recognize your name if your agent called them or your picture crossed their desk. If you are taking Randy Becker’s class at TVI, he is a film Producer at Acuna Entertainment that you can add to your list. Don’t be discouraged if the list is initially small. These are the people you will keep informed of your bookings, shows, episode airings on a regular basis via postcards, these are your Peeps. Next make a list of people you want to be on your Peeps list. Then meet them at a workshop and put your best foot forward!

LA Theater is Alive and Well

Ambardar_Pia_fixFP-036r.jpgThere are a variety of ways to exercise the acting muscles and theater in Los Angeles is a great way to do so. TVI member Pia Ambardar is performing in the West Coast Ensemble production of “Miss Witherspoon“. The show runs Fridays and Saturdays until December 14th at the El Centro Theatre in hollywood. Knock ‘em dead Pia!

TVI's Louisa Kendrick gains Seven Pounds!

Picture 2.jpgOne of TVI‘s latest additions, Louisa Kendrick, is now linked to Will Smith. No, no, not romantically (sorry for the scare, Jada). Louisa will be seen on December 19th, as Barry Pepper‘s wife, Michelle in Seven Pounds. Seven Pounds, the latest release from Columbia Productions, is tagged as a suicidal, guilt-ridden man’s journey who attempts to make amends for his past – this gesture, which should be his end, marks his future. While that is elusive and we have no idea what that really entails. We are all going to run to the theatre and support Louisa and Will Smith. Congrats!
