Talent Agents work for you…really!

agent-blog.jpg

New actors seem to be so anxious to get an agent. I often wonder why. The reality is this: it is the agent that wants you. If the talent is “marketable” then, by all means, the agent would love to work for you. No kidding. The best thing you can do for yourself is to work on your talent, skills and personality. Then, it is a matter of “Marketing” yourself so that those interested agents can find you. So remember treat the agent as if they were part of your “Tool Kit” and not just something you must have.

Failure vs Defeat

failure-blog.jpg
“I was very surprised to hear an actor call himself a “failure”.” ~ Jeffrey Dreisbach, Director, TVI Studios, New York

Apparently, the role he had worked so hard for did not reveal itself at the audition. Instead he read the faces of the Casting Director, the Director, the Stage Manager and concluded that he missed the entire point of the scene. I was saddened by his decision to beat himself up.

“After all, failure is not defeat until or unless you stop trying.” ~ Jeffrey Dreisbach, Director, TVI Studios, New York

The uniqueness of TVI Actors Studios across several continents in bring foundation acting classes with prominent talent agents and casting directors. We call this the Hybrid Actors School. While founder of TVI, Alan S Nusbaum recognized the importance of a solid dramatic education and theatre foundation, what was missing was the weekly interaction with the talent agents, casting directors, producers and directors that will eventually be employing the TVI Acting Students – whether it be in Hollywood, New York, Vancouver, Toronto, Mumbai or Sydney.

“Education without practical knowledge and industry relationships will only get you so far working as a professional actor”, or as Alan S Nusbaum coined the term actor-preneur.
