From where I sit, I see many actors, Casting Directors, Agents, Personal Managers, Arts teachers and others constantly involved in their life issues. Their Lack of work, Lack of business, lack of talent, lack of…whatever! The focus always seems to be about what is missing. Its as if we decide to listen to our private negative voice as the only voice of reason. Intellectually, we know what we are doing when we give attention to the “I suck…” voice, yet the decision to pay attention to it is also ours to own. The reason for this one sided argument really comes down to on simple, basic, extraordinary discovery. Fear. Fear rules our every decision. Fear of success, fear of failure, fear of not measuring up for whatever reason seems to grip our sensibilities. I have always tried to think of fear as an acronym: False Evidence Appearing Real. It helps me understand that what can sometimes control my decisions, is usually wrong, incorrect, limited. You don’t really “suck” you are just fearful you just might. OK, that it. Did I help anyone? do I really know what I’m doing…?
